I’m rather getting into my current obsessions column, probably because I have so many obsessions! My latest (and if you follow me on instragram you will know this already) is Street Feast. It’s a nighttime food market in my neighbourhood, which runs for a 20-week stretch over the summer.
Every Friday evening from 5pm and on Saturdays from noon you’ll find it situated in an old car park off Dalston Lane. that feels super New York-y. A stones throw from our house in fact so most Fridays G and I and the two M’s will be perched on the bar stools at Smoke Stak sipping a craft beer and eating some of the best pulled pork around.
If pulled pork ain’t your thang you’ll also find flavour-packed Korean burritos from Kimchinary, delicate Taiwanese buns from Bao London, crisp fried chicken from Spit and Roast and the juiciest burgers from Mother Flipper. Many of the vendors have table service, Pizza Pilgrims for instance have a purpose-built wood fired oven; opposite them resides a New England style clam shack from B.O.B’s Lobster serving up curbside clam bake! Yum.
They’ve got you covered for booze too – whether you want giant oversized cocktails from the Rotary Bar, over 30 different varieties from the Gin Store, to grab a wine from Street Vin or opt for frozen margaritas from the Tequila Bareto.
When the sun dips wood fires are lit to warm the air. Although that’s not something you need to worry about if you happen to perched on one of the stools near Smoke Stak’s oven! Most of the yard is covered so you can enjoy it come rain or shine. It’s caused a bit of commotion in our ‘hood, and it’s not hard to see why.Can not urge you enough to go along, it’s one of the coolest ways to spend an evening outside in London in the summer. See you there!
