I’m about to reveal my biggest secret to you. This is the basis of our business (practically!)…

Gem and I travel a lot for work, this year it’s actually crazier than last (not so fab for someone who doesn’t like flying).  Never mind that those days are long and nights are often sleep deprived, particularly if it’s far flung, which it usually is as my body clock just will not comply no matter what I do. Don’t drink, do drink, take sleeping pills, eat lightly – it’s totally irrelevant to me. I only have two requests when I travel; I need a hotel with a swimming pool outside, heated and open by 6am (worse case 6.30am)! and I need the bar to be able to make us espresso martinis in the evening. Simple requests right?

Espresso martinis made the craziness of Paris set up days bearable, they even make 19 hours travelling into the depths of China tolerable, because at the end is a lush hotel garden and a perfect drink. It’s this sumptuous mix of vodka, coffee liquor and espresso that is so fabulous. It’s rich, indulgent and creamy and of course if you are tired it instantly perks you up. Here’s the recipe. Go easy, I reckon too much of a good thing could be too dangerous!

ABIGAIL’S ULTIMATE PICK-ME-UP ESPRESSO MARTINI

1 shot Kahlúa or Caffé Lolita liqueur
1 shot espresso (the best coffee you can find)
2 shots vodka (Ketel One or Brecon Five are incredible)

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake very vigorously to combine. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with three coffee beans on top. Chin chin!
