Pattern is a tricky thing for me, as I am very particular with the patterns I like. I am NOT one for cutesy, obvious patterns, at all. I love the natural, organic feel pattern adds to a space, which brings a cosy vibe to my pad.
For me, pattern is a tough interior dilemma to overcome when styling a room. It can often make or break a space. My advice would be to try, and blend a laid-back style and high glamour to create a boho glam patterned space.
Here are a few simple styling tips to nailing pattern:
1. NO MATCHING
Try to avoid matching your curtains to your rugs and tableware, and your space will feel more relaxed, and less on the styled-overkill.
Play around with the space in the room. Make sure there is some block colour to balance out your brighter patterns.
3. PLAY WITH SCALE
I adore playing around with scale. Some designers may say to ‘match the size of the print to the size of room’, I say try it out. You may want to use a large bold print to overpower a small room – to me that creates intrigue and can make the room seem larger. Just make sure you take the amount of light and space into consideration.
4. TOO MUCH INFORMATION
Don’t over do it too much. If a whole room is decorated with a busy wallpaper, try using a muted colour to avoid headaches. For me, I want my pad to be a calming place, not somewhere I want to overdose on botanical prints everywhere.
