I have just come back from the most fabulous outdoor swim. Did you know it now gets light at 6.50 so I start off swimming under the stars to see dawn break. Its magical especially on days like this  sunny, clear and with a feeling of spring in the air. Today the M’s and I are on our own in the studio which is almost unheard of these days but the rest of the team is either holidaying, in meetings or between the warehouse and store so its just us three. I’m hoping it might be warm enough for a roasted carrot soup alfresco at lunch, and then a late afternoon potter to the coffee house but I digress, lets talk inspirational people.  I get asked a lot about who my favourite designers are by the press and whilst I don’t have many the ones that I do admire knock it out of the park.

Jonathan Adler

Potter, designer, retailer and author Jonathan Alder has changed the visual landscape of interiors. A fearless proponent of making design fun, I am obsessed with how he has turned a stuffy somewhat snobby industry on its head. His style rocks 60s and 70’s modern glamour and everything he touches is fun and engaging from his intriguing use of colour to his incredible designs. From covetable furnishings to tabletop, bedding to lighting everything Jonathan touches is sprinkled with fairy dust magic. I have the hugest respect for him and his business and admire his extraordinary skills.A few weeks ago actually I woke up to a personal email from Jonathan totally out of the blue telling me to keep up the good work, I was extremely flattered to say the least!

Roman and Williams

Stephen Alesch & Robin Standefer, own the architectural and interior design firm Roman and Williams and are two designers whose feet I lay at and bow. They have turned hotel lobbies into cool hang out zones. They have made bars and restaurants worldwide embrace reclaimed wood, hipsters embrace filament bulbs and vintage turntables to name but a few things. They make new spaces look and feel old and they’ve made boho cool. I have their book sitting in my studio, I love everything they do and although I may describe their aesthetic as rough lux it is so much more than that. It’s authentic and it lifts the spirits, I am a big fan.

Kelly Wearstler

I visited Kelly’s pad’s in LA last summer for my latest book (due out in Europe in April and in the States this fall) as I have long time been one of her biggest fan’s. Her approach to design is uber glamorous, think luxurious materials, high-octane patterns, metallic surfaces. Her approach to design is both bedazzling and beautiful unique and dramatic. I admire her daredevil approach they way she dexterously mixes periods and plays around with scale. Again I am one of her biggest fans.

These guys are visionaries, their approach to design is unique and subsequently they stand out from the crowd in everything they do. When so much in design is  the same (Scandinavian, retro, pastel I could go on)  these guys voices rise above the rest, I applaud and respect all of them.
