Retail is all about creating magic, making you feel happier, cooler and more chic. I want you to feel you’ve just fallen down the rabbit hole when you enter one of my stores. Here’s how I do it:

1. MAKE THE WINDOWS COOL

Even if you’ve got the smallest window, use vinyls and get your message across with what is in store. Display your products in a curated way. Single colour theme’s look sophisticated and grab immediate attention. Avoid too much clutter, space equals luxury – leverage upon this.

2. CREATE A GOOD IMPRESSION

Eye-catching displays at the front should make customers hearts skip a beat and slow them down. You want to slow the pace down otherwise they might hurry on through.

3. LEADING TO THE RIGHT

Studies show that most people look right first and then left. Generally customers prefer to move right and counter clockwise around the store. With this in mind, I made sure we created our faux florist on the left because I knew it would totally confuse and tantalise the eye. I love my customers being pulled in different directions giving them a more exciting route.

4. LEAD CUSTOMERS SOMEWHERE

Don’t have areas ending in nothing, always anchor things on an angle or in front to create drama. Play with scale and have fun with creating a lively rhythm and in height and size.

5. CREATE SPACE

The eye needs breathing space so make sure you leave some negative space so it doesn’t feel supper-cluttered.
